<p>It is not easy to hire qualified staff with the right attitude and necessary confidence.  When hiring, businesses must know that the first rule is to never do it hurriedly or haphazardly. Here are tips to help you attract, screen and take on the right person for the right job:<span id="more-514"></span></p>
<ul>
<li>Have a job profile. It is important that your selection process and criteria is crystal clear.</li>
<li>Define wage and employment conditions. The salary to be paid and the conditions of employment should be set down in black and white.</li>
<li>Make sure you have enough candidates to choose from. Increase awareness through various means. You can utilize different Social Media like <a href="http://facebook.com/sysgen">Facebook</a> and <a href="http://twitter.com/SysgenRecruit">Twitter</a> to help you increase your recruitment channels.</li>
<li>Set Expectations. Before you advertise for help, sit down and write a job description. List your goals for the new hire &#8211; do you want someone who can fill in on short notice when you need to take a day off, or do you want someone who can work a regular schedule? Do you want someone who can meet with clients, set their own schedules and attend meetings and events on your behalf or do you simply need someone who can pick up your overflow? If you can clearly articulate the job to all applicants, they will have the opportunity to determine if this is a mutually agreeable fit. Be sure to concentrate on specific job-related descriptions, and not subjective information.</li>
<li>Narrow your possible candidates. Once you have several people interested in the job, the next step is to sort them according to your priorities. My suggestion is that you set your priorities based on your immediate requirements.</li>
<li>Interview. The purpose of interviewing is to identify people who have the right mix of qualifications, skills, personality, and attitude to make valuable contributions to your organization in a particular job.</li>
<li>Body Language is very relevant to management and leadership and to all aspects of work and business where communication and interpersonal relationships are essential. During an interview it is crucial to learn how to understand some basic signs like how applicants look, the way they sit, and talk. Usually, the inability to look you in the eye reflects shyness, insecurity or even untrustworthiness. During the interview try to look beyond what the applicants are saying.</li>
<li>Work Environment is more important to employees. Today&#8217;s workplace is different, diverse, and constantly changing. The typical employer/employee relationship of old has been turned upside down. Workers are living in a growing economy and have almost limitless job opportunities. This combination of factors has created an environment where the business needs its employees more than the employees need the business.</li>
<li>Employment Testing. Employees affect an organization’s performance and profitability.  Hiring or promoting people who are unsuitable costs time, money, and potential loss of new business.  Carefully developed and administered employment tests can provide organizations with a way to decide systematically and accurately which people have the ability to perform well on the job, will not result in fast turnover, will not engage in counterproductive behavior, and will be able to learn from training programs. Tests can also benefit individuals who are better matched to positions for which they are suited and in which they will wish to remain.</li>
</ul>

<p>You enter the interview room, shake hands with your interviewer and sit down with your finest and warmest smile. And the first question is: &#8220;Tell me about yourself.&#8221;<span id="more-499"></span></p>
<p>You can answer this question in many ways. But &#8212; as with all other interview questions &#8212; the key to answering this question is to offer a response that supports your career goals.  This means that this is neither the time nor the place to talk about your hobbies, your spouse, or your extra-curricular activities.</p>
<p>Remember that the interviewer uses the interview process as a vehicle to evaluate and when called for, eliminate your candidacy. Every question he asks is meant to compare and differentiate your skills, experience, and personality with that of other candidates. He wants to determine if what you have to offer will mesh with and complement the organization’s mission, goals and needs.</p>
<p>Your response to the question, “So, why don’t you tell me about yourself?” should meet the interviewer’s need to know more about you as a professional aspiring to join and contribute to the organization. Giving him a clear picture of your suitability for a particular job should be your top priority. Be prepared for this question and do not simply “wing it”.</p>
<p>Follow the four easy steps outlined below to ensure your response will grab the interviewer’s attention.</p>
<p>1. <strong>Provide a brief but specific introduction</strong>. Introduce attributes that are essential to the position.</p>
<p>Sample introduction: During my 7 years’ of experience as a project manager, I have mastered the ability to coach, train, and motivate IT development teams.</p>
<p>2. <strong>Provide a concise history of your work experience</strong>. Your <a title="Career and Jobs" href="http://sysgen.com.ph/it-job-openings-philippines">career</a> summary is the “essence” of your response, so it must support your job application and it must be compelling. Limit your response to your more recent and current experience. Do not, for instance, backtrack more than 10 years.</p>
<p>Sample history: Recently, at Sysgen Philippines, I was challenged by the need to improve the ranking of our website which fell below those of our competitors in the Philippines. Using approaches that I had found effective in the past, I developed an aggressive online campaign that focused on Search Engine Ranking and Conversion. The results were remarkable. Within six months I was able to improve our website’s performance by 40%.</p>
<p>3. <strong>Tie your answer to the needs of the organization</strong>. Do not assume that the interviewer will be able to connect all the dots. It is your job as the interviewee to make sure the interviewer understands how your experiences are transferable to the current position they are seeking to fill.</p>
<p>Sample tie-in: Because of my proven experience in leading a technical team, John Dela Cruz suggested I contact you regarding your need for a technical manager. John filled me in on the challenges your technical department is handling.</p>
<p>4. <strong>Ask an astute question</strong>. By asking a question you gain control of the interview. Do not ask a question for the sake of asking a question. Be sure that the question will make the interviewer participate in the conversation. Doing so will ease the stress you may feel.</p>
<p>Sample question: What strategies are currently underway to increase website visits and conversion?</p>
<p>When you walk into an interview, remember to always expect the &#8220;tell me about yourself&#8221; question. Prepare ahead of time by developing your own personal branding statement that clearly states who you are, your major strengths and why you will be an asset to your prospective employer.  You will more easily and quickly attract attention and retain interest. You can then better differentiate yourself from your competitors and have a greater chance of being positively remembered and hired.</p>

<p>MYTH: &#8220;I have no idea what I want to do. There is something wrong with me.&#8221;<br />
FACT:  This is perfectly normal. Many college students don&#8217;t have a clear idea of what major they want or what career to pursue. With proper research, support and guidance, you can make decisions that are right for you.</p>
<p>MYTH: &#8220;There is only ONE career path for me.&#8221;<br />
FACT: Career contentment does not necessarily have to be clear cut and singularly focused on one profession or one job. For example, if you are an artist and yet find you are more adept in Information Technology, you could  be happy  as a web designer or a graphic artist.</p>
<p>MYTH: &#8220;If I choose a major or a career, I have to stick with it forever.&#8221;<br />
FACT: Most majors groom you for a range of careers. When you compound the skills you will learn in your major with others you will gain from full-time work, internships, and other activities, you will have the ability to shift directions. Most people have numerous careers and jobs during their employment lives.</p>
<p>MYTH: &#8220;I will fail if I make the wrong choice.&#8221;<br />
FACT: You only fail when you do not adapt or change  when necessary. If you realize a major or career choice is not right for you, change it.</p>
<p>MYTH: &#8220;Contentment is impossible without a stellar career.&#8221;<br />
FACT: Career can be a major source of satisfaction in life, but it is not everything. Sometimes a job simply produces money so that you have time and energy for the things that really matter to you.</p>
<p>MYTH: &#8220;There is an expert who can advise me on what to do with my life.&#8221;<br />
FACT: Only YOU know what&#8217;s best for yourself. There are people you can rely on for support, but in the end you still make your own decisions. FACT: Although it&#8217;s important to make a well-informed decision, sometimes people are immobilized because they think that no matter how significant the information they have gathered, it is not enough. They leave everything open-ended and put off making a decision. Don&#8217;t allow this to happen to you. Gather enough information about your major or career choice and make a decision. But realize that even after you have made a decision, you may still be able to collect more information and evaluate whether it was the right one.</p>

<p>What should you not do during an interview?  Sysgen has compiled a list of top ten interview blunders. Hopefully, none of you will make or at the very least, ever again repeat these common mistakes.<span id="more-330"></span></p>
<p>1.	Failing to remember what you wrote in your own resume: Even if you have already submitted a resume when you applied for the job, you may be asked to fill out a job application. Make sure you know the information you will need to complete an application, including dates of prior employment, graduation dates, and employer contact information.</p>
<p>2.	Neglecting to match the communication style of your interviewer: Do your best to catch up with the pace of the interviewer.</p>
<p>3.	Being falsely modest: Employers need to have an accurate picture of your skills and abilities. State it in black and white.</p>
<p>4.	Failing to make eye contact: One of the most overlooked components of an interview. Making eye contact re-assures your interviewer that you are being honest with your answers and not hiding anything.</p>
<p>5.	Letting your nervousness show: Project confidence. This will help the interviewer know that you can handle pressure on the job.</p>
<p>6.	Chewing gum, tobacco, your pen, your hair, etc.: Need I say more? This is distracting and rude.</p>
<p>7.	Talking too much: There is nothing  worse than interviewing someone who goes on and on and on&#8230; The interviewer really doesn&#8217;t need to know your whole life story. Keep your answers concise, to-the-point and focused.  Don&#8217;t ramble &#8211; simply answer the question.</p>
<p>8.	Asking no questions at all: You’ve got to show the interviewer some enthusiasm.</p>
<p>9.	Badmouthing Past Employer:  Your last boss was an idiot? Everyone in the company was a jerk? You hated your job and couldn&#8217;t wait to leave? Even if it&#8217;s, true don&#8217;t say so. I cringed when I heard someone ranting and raving about the last company she worked for. That company happened to be our largest client and, of course, I wasn&#8217;t going to hire someone who felt that way about the company and everyone who worked there.</p>
<p>10.	Forgetting to follow up:  Afraid you didn&#8217;t make the best impression? Are you sure that you aced the interviewed? Either way, make sure to follow up with a thank you note reiterating your interest in the position and the company.</p>
